When working on public roads, construction crew safety is a must, especially when it comes to traffic control. However, as traffic levels increase, changes to the current technology are required to maintain safety.
When design enhancements are needed, SWS Warning Lights is ready to answer the call.
THE NEED
Regional regulatory bodies in Quebec and Eastern Canada updated their truck-mounted and trailer-mounted flashing arrow requirements to ensure road construction crew safety. Their new dimensional layout specifications requirements involved using a round modular style layout, while previously-approved SWS traffic arrows used extruded aluminum housing with rectangular LED panels.
THE SOLUTION
The engineering team at SWS Warning Lights developed a new modular style LED traffic arrow to satisfy the dimensional requirements and performance characteristics listed under Quebec and Eastern Canada provincial guidelines.
The new design featured a new two-piece arrow body and round modular style heads with the latest LED technology. The redesigned round modular head employs a dual optic with nine flood style optics for maximum viewing angle and three narrow beam optics to maximize the projection distance.
As with all SWS products, we assembled the new units in-house, using updated construction techniques and interconnects.

THE RESULTS
The 54000 Series Traffic Arrow is SWS’s latest LED traffic directing device. Its two-piece impact-resistant, UV-stabilized ABS body meets the dimensional requirements for Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and British Columbia. The units can also be used in Ontario in conjunction with TC-12 arrows or for short-duration work.
With the new traffic arrows in place, traffic flow is now better managed, and construction crew safety and productivity are improved.
